Isabella's Jewellery Philosophy

Isabella Hart

Originally from Hong Kong, Isabella has lived and worked in the UK for over 30 years

Isabella has taken inspiration from her Oriental heritage, citing both Chinese and Japanese culture as major influences on her work.

Isabella is particularly interested in Japanese Zen Art and uses its ideals to create work that is simple, crisp and clean.

Isabella’s work has also been greatly influenced by Origami, exploring how complex 3D objects can be created from a simple 2D form.

Isabella often fuses the Techniques of Origami and the Principles of Zen to create her pieces, as she explains:

"This Eternal Heart Range was created after many trials over a long period of time. By cutting a flat sheet of metal in a specific way and manipulating and folding, it turns into a 3D form.

This 3D form, when the eye follows the line of the edge, the inside becomes the outside and the outside becomes the inside. The whole object is of one continuous surface and one continuous edge.

There is no beginning and there is no end.

One surface and one edge holding together a three dimensional form symbolising oneness and endless in its simplicity."
